東京音楽大学ピアノ演奏家コースを卒業。同大学研究生ピアノ伴奏者コース終了。１９９４年イタリア中部チッタ・デッラ･ピエーヴェにてピアノ・ソロ・リサイタルで演奏、その後、東京音楽大学、昭和音楽大学にて助手、講師を務める。1996年よりオペラのPianist/Coachとして新国立劇場をはじめ、二期会、RAI Torino Symphony Orchestra, 読売日本交響楽団、東京都交響楽団等、プロフェッショナルのオペラ劇場等で活躍。５０以上のオペラのレパートリーを持ち、ジャコニーミやクルト･モル、ベルント･ヴァイクルなど多くの世界的歌手、またゲルト･アルブレヒトやブロムシュテット, ダン･エッティンガーなどの世界的著名な指揮者と競演。特にワーグナー、シュトラウスの巨大なオペラ･プロダクションに数多く携わり、また多くの 世界初演オペラ･プロジェクトにも大変な貢献を果たす。その後、新国立劇場等でAssistant Conductorとしても活躍し、また２００７年Mira Mareでは”愛の妙薬”を指揮し、指揮者としてもデビューを果たす。現在ヒューストン・グランド・オペラのOpera to Goで音楽監督を務め、世界初演の作品を紹介。２００８年に渡米以来、７００回以上のコンサートを演奏する。またOpera in the Heightsでは副指揮、ヘッド・コーチを務め、２０近くのプロダクションに貢献。２０１４年のドン・ジョバンニではチェンバリストとして演奏し、ヒューストン・プレスでその質の高い演奏を賞賛される。またコンサートの分野でもGorge Bush Sr. 元大統領の前や、ヒューストン日本総領事館公邸で演奏。 2012年にはSoma International Foundation主催で世界的に有名なメゾ・ソプラノ歌手、Denyce Gravesとリサイタルで共演し大成功をおさめる。その他にKUHF Houston Public Radioにもたびたび出演し、Lois Alba オペラ・アリア・コンクールの公式伴奏者としても選ばれるなど、その活躍の場を広げている。
◇Director: Teruhiko Toda Biography
Mr. Toda serves as the Music Director of Houston Grand Opera’s Opera to Go! He has presented several world premiere productions, and has performed in more than 700 performances through out Texas since he moved to the U.S. He also served as an Assistant Conductor and Head Repetiteur with Opera in the Heights. Other engagements include a performance for President George H. W. Bush, and performing with world famous Mezzo Soprano, Denyce Graves recital.
Teruhiko Toda started his career as a solo pianist performing in Italy in 1996. Then, he worked as an opera Assistant Conductor and Pianist/Coach in Tokyo and Houston. In 2007, he conducted L’elisir D’amore. Mr. Toda has been engaged by a variety of professional opera companies and orchestras, including the Houston Grand Opera, New National Theatre Tokyo, the RAI Torino Symphony Orchestra, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra. Throughout his career, he has worked with world famous opera singers and conductors including Guiseppe Giacomini, Kurt Moll, Dan Ettinger, and Emmanuel Villaume. His repertoire includes over 50 complete operas, including Wagner’s Parsifal, Gotterdammerung, and Meistersinger. He also performed in world premiere opera productions, including “La Verratene Meer” by Henze, and “Osud” by Janacek.
Mr. Toda earned his Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance from the Tokyo College of Music, followed by a graduate degree in Piano Accompaniment. Following graduation he was a member of the faculty at the Tokyo College of Music coaching opera students in both the graduate and undergraduate programs.
